Preadmission Clinic

Today began with an early start and we arrived at the preadmission clinic at 7 a.m.  The day consisted of a chest x-ray, blood work, EKG, Echo cardiogram, and meetings with the surgeon, social worker, and physio.  Preadmission clinic is usually suppose to last about 6 hours and today we spend a grand total of 8 1/2 hours and still have not seen the anesthesiologist and taken a tour of the PICU (pediatric intensive care unit), which will now end up happening on Monday.  There are two heart surgeries planned for Monday and we were hoping that Kayden's would be the first, but unfortunately he will be going second and only scheduled for 2:40 p.m!  Kayden was so patient today and did so great with everything.  He began to realize a little more of what is to come on Monday and his nerves have began to kick in a little bit more.

Kayden ended up with a little bit of the sniffles today which added a lot of extra stress to the day.  At the end of the day the nurse took a little sample from his nose and they will test it over the weekend and see if it "grows" anything.  He seems a lot better this evening and the nurse said it could be as simple as a change in environment.  To top it all off, we sat around all day in a hospital filled with people with colds.  The sounds of the sniffles and coughs from the waiting room were as bad as listening to nails of a chalk board!

Kayden keeps saying that this is "the best holiday" and it breaks our heart to know what he has in store.  We are greatful to have two full days to ourselves before surgery and are looking forward to having some fun with our little man and making as much of a little "holiday" as we can.

He was such a trooper!
