Stressful Couple of Days!

It has been a very stressful couple of days, as things did not go as planned in Kayden's first appointment.  His first appointment was at the dentist for some dental work that he needed to have done before surgery, (any infections in the mouth can lead to an infection in the heart if not treated).  He was suppose to get half of the dental work done on Monday and the other half on Tuesday.  Kayden was giving nitrous oxide to relax him and did so wonderful getting his teeth fixed, but when it was all over, he sat up and complained of being very hot and he looked white!  They gave him oxygen for quite awhile and when he thought that he was feeling better he got up again and came to stand by me.  When I felt his back, his shirt was wet with sweat!  He wasn't feeling well again, so we laid him back down and gave him some more oxygen.  Kayden was bearly able to keep his eyes open or answer any questions at this point.  Panic really set in for us when the dentist asked for "the cart" for back-up (complete with a defibrillator)!   The dentist was so great and immediatly called the doctor at the heart center.  She thought it was probably due to the narrowing of his conduit (the artificial piece in his heart), and instructed us to give him a glass of juice and if he still wasn't doing better in about 15 minutes then we should take him to Children's Emergency.  A little while later Kayden finally started to feel better and we were able to avoid a trip to the hospital.  Thankfully, the dental work that needed to be done on Tuesday is able to wait a couple of months before it will cause problems and they feel that it is in Kayden's best interest to wait to have it done.

Today, instead of going to the dentist, he needed to be seen as Variety Heart Center where he had another ultrasound of his heart.  There has not been much change from the last ultrasound that was done in November, but because of his increased symptoms, Kayden's doctor will try to push for a faster surgery date.  The second appointment of the day went great and although we did not get a final report, it looks like everything is fine with his bladder!

Although it has been a crazy couple of days, we are so thankful that Kayden is doing well! We will continue to pray for a fast surgery date and no more scary episodes.  Thru all of this, Kayden continues to amaze us!  He has been such a champ and we are so proud of him.  Even with days of lots of appointments he keeps smiling and is always willing to joke around with all of hospital staff and make the best of it!
